Description
The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) at Stennis Space Center is seeking a postdoctoral associate in applied math with a focus on physical oceanography. The subject of research involves developing machine learning (ML) algorithms for mixed layer depth forecasting in regional applications. The candidate is expected to have in-depth knowledge of the ML technique and demonstrate strong programming skills (MATLAB, Python, Fortran, Silk, Unix scripting). Experience with large data sets and numerical modeling is advantageous. In addition to developing and training neural networks, the role includes substantial experimentation with atmospheric and oceanic data from NRL’s data assimilation systems to evaluate the network’s forecasting capabilities. The Naval Research Laboratory provides an opportunity to work with a large group of internationally recognized researchers. We have access to superb supercomputing and general computational resources. A postdoctoral fellow will be hired with a stipend for 1 year with an excellent opportunity of renewal and future employment at the Lab. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application. NRL is an equal opportunity employer. Interested applicants should send a resume to max.yaremchuk.civ@us.navy.mil.
